Frequently Asked Questions

I loved Gadfly, Book 2 in the Ricky Steele series. Will Ricky and Jay be together in book 3?
You can expect to see Jay Harp again. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he popped up in book 3, Lost in Spindle City, which is due out in late summer, 2014.

I loved A Friend of Silence and felt sure that Bess and Roger would be together. Will she marry Harry in book 2?
My first draft of the second book is this series is almost completed, but I won’t give away what happens to these beloved characters. The book opens with a shocker, reads with suspense, and ends with romance, just like its predecessor, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise!

Do you want to hear about typos?
YES, PLEASE! My books have been revised, proofed and edited many, many times, but I, and my intrepid assistants, are human, so if you spot a typo, please e-mail me and I will fix it right away!

Wind Flower’s story is unforgettable. How historically accurate is it?
I spent over two years researching for A Song of the Spirit. While the characters of Wind Flower, Laughing Dove and Caleb are fictional, the kidnapping and forced incarceration of native children in schools run by the Bureau of Indian Affairs is not. The schools, Wounded Knee, and treatment of native people are regrettable, but very real pieces of this country’s history.

Will there be another adventure for Juls and Tuck?
I’m so glad you asked! Jigsaw was written as the first of a series of “game mysteries.” While I have plans and ideas for three more books featuring this pair, so many other projects have intervened. I fear it will be well into 2016 before the next book in this mystery series is out.

Where do you get your ideas?
Everywhere! If I only had 200 hours in each day, more of them would be turned into books!

How and when did you start writing?
I’ve been writing all my life, but I actually started writing fiction through professional development ideas offered to me in my “other job” as a teacher and reading specialist. Over thirty years ago, when my school’s faculty learned about the “writing process” and began using the approach with our students, a group of teachers formed a writers group. We began sharing short stories, novel chapters and other writings with each other. It was a rich, heady time. Asamaran (coming soon!), my first novel for young adults, was born during that period.

What is your favorite book?
People ask me this all the time and it kind of stumps me. I have affection for Asamaran, as my first, and I love the character of Ricky Steele, as she does all the things I wish I could do, if I wasn’t such a wimp. If I were informed that all my books would all be thrown overboard, save one, I would probably grab hold of A Friend of Silence, or Glass Walls, a contemporary romance, that I wrote 30 years ago. Glass Wallsis still with editors and proofreaders, but I do hope to publish it in 2015. It’s a lovely novel and one of which I am very proud. A Friend of Silence speaks to my heart and the light that shines in us all. I only hope I can sustain that light in book 2.
